Since then, syndication rights to the show have been sold to USA Network, as well as ten Fox affiliates, to be broadcast in the Fall 2013.

As a result of the show’s outstanding success, Modern Family has become the sixteenth highest money earning series for 2010, with revenue earnings of $1.6 million an episode. What Is Modern Family All About?

The show follows the daily lives of three families, and to add a little twist, they are all related. These families are all very different. The families are Jay Pritchett, played by Ed O’Neill, his daughter, Claire Dunphy, played by Julie Bowen, and his son Mitchell Pritchett, played by, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and they live in a suburban community of Los Angeles California.

Claire is a homemaker mother, married to Phil Dunphy, played by Ty Burrell. They have three children, Hayley, played by Sarah Hyland, Alex, played by, Ariel Winter, and Luke, who is played by Nolan Gould.

Jay Pritchett, has married a much younger Columbian woman named Gloria, played by Sofia Vergara, after divorcing long time wife, played by Shelly Long, and so has taken on helping her raise her preteen son Manny, played by Rico Rodriguez.

Finally there is Mitchell Pritchett, and his gay partner Cameron Tucker, who is played by, Eric Stonestreet. They have adopted a Vietnamese baby, that they have named Lily.

There are, of course, several recurring character appearances that fill in the gaps, and complete the story lines in various situations. Reid Ewing, has appeared in several episodes as Hayley’s boyfriend Dylan. Fred Willard, appears as Phil’s father Frank Dunphy, who later went on to be nominated for a Prime Time Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series, but lost out to Neil Patrick Harris from ‘Glee’. Shelley Long has appeared in both seasons. She plays Claire and Mitchell’s mother, and Jay’s ex wife, and is known in the show as DeDe Pritchett. Nathan Lane has appeared in the part of Pepper Saltsman, a flamboyant friend of Cameron and Mitchell.
